Gale Running Wolf, Sr., Blackfeet Artist

Gale Running Wolf, Sr. is a nationally known Blackfeet
artist. Born and raised on the Blackfeet Reservation,
he now makes his home in Billings, Montana.

Although Gale has no formal art training, he masterfully
portrays his Blackfeet heritage with vivid realism and
developed a unique "winter blue" style that is easily
recognized.

His new style consists of pencil and acrylic; depicting
animals and warriors on horseback.

A full-time professional artist for 12 years, Gale
exhibits at many prestigious shows and auctions
throughout the United States. He is represented
by various galleries, museums, National Parks,
and art distributors in the country. his work is in
collections throughout the United States, Canada,
Europe, and Australia.

Gale has won 35 awards over the years. His first
major award was the "Newcomer Award" at the
1986 Trail of Tears Exhibit in Tahlequah, OK,
and his latest; the "People's Choice" award at
Post Falls, Idaho, marked his 10th "People's
Choice" award from various art shows over the
years.

Gale was the first Native American artist
selected by the Bradford Exchange of Niles,
Illinois to do a limited edition of collector's plates titled the "Chosen Messenger" series.

His painting "End of an Era" was selected by the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument board of directors to be reproduced and sold as a limited edition print at the battlefield.

Gale was also the only Northern Plains Artist chosen every year from 1990-2000 to be
published in the Native American Calendar
(along with several other well-known Native American artists from Oklahoma and Texas)
for Advertising Unlimited Inc., Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.
